PRESS STATEMENT
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE
On behalf of the 35 .5 million Nigerians with disabilities, I want to sincerely express my heartfelt condolences to the family of Comrade BalaTsoho Musa whose demise occurred on the 19th October, 2024.
Though the cause of the bereavement is yet to be ascertained, we pray that the Almighty God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The deceased was a pragmatic activist and an Educationist per excellence who contributed immensely to the realization of disability law and literacy of Children with Disabilities; he will not be forgotten in a hurry.
We also use this medium to reaffirm the commitments of our Commission to the advancement of the inclusive agenda of Persons with disabilities in all the 774 local governments in Nigeria.

An environmental scan of disability data to provide evidence on the status of nationally representative data disaggregated across the Economic, Political, Social and Health Sector across the country was collected, analyzed and validated by Organizations of Persons with Disabilities.
Strengthening Disability Act for Accessibility of Services for Person with Disabilities.
A guidance note was developed and validated which will be published soon to guide in the implementation of the disability act in creating access to service for person with disabilities.
Promotion of local production of Assistive Technology, Ensuring accessibility and affordability of Assistive Technology for Persons with Disabilities.
CHAI, NCPWD develop Assistive Technology Country Capacity Assessment (CCA) Report.
The Development of Assistive Technology product list for Nigeria using the WHO guidance.
Improved knowledge on advocating and programming for Disability Inclusive Development.
An ongoing plan to partner with Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) to improve access to VRS for Deaf Persons.
A document was created on minimum accessibility standard that will ensure compliance and enforcement of accessibility for persons with disabilities
Processing and resolution of issues of noncompliance to sections 28 &29 of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Acts 2018.
Federal Ministry of Agriculture has appointed a PWD as desk officer and the Federation of Public Service Games have included five sporting Games into the FEPSGA games in compliance with the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
