In recognition of the unprecedented performance and Advocacy for Persons With Disabilities, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has received an Award of excellence on humanitarian grounds during the 20th anniversary of the existence of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), marked in Abuja, today 27th July, 2023. The event tagged "A Shining Legacy" witnessed countries' representatives and organizations whose hands have been on decks in the fight against trafficking in persons in the last twenty years. Speaking at the occasion, the ES showed gratitude to the Director General, NAPTIP for deeming him fit for the revered award. "I am deeply honoured to receive this award on behalf of over 35. 5 million Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria who have experienced one form of discrimination or the other in the society. DG, NAPTIP, Professor Fatima Waziri in her welcome remarks expressed a profound gratitude to Partners, Security Agencies, foreign Donors, Ambassadors and other key stakeholders for being exemplary in their overall support to fighting human trafficking across Nigeria. Waziri highlighted that the Agency was able to record eighty convictions in 2022 as well as prosecute one of the most notorious traffickers in the country who recently bagged 18 years in imprisonment after conviction this year. "These laudable feet can only be achievable by an army of extraordinary individuals who have made themselves available for the service to humanity," she said. Representative of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Ag. DCG, Kemi Nandap reassured of the services' commitments in the fight against human trafficking. She equally seized the occasion to commend the doggedness of the DG, NAPTIP and wish the Agency higher feats in the near future. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Braille Version of the Simplified Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) ACT, 2015 and the Trafficking in Persons ( Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 which were printed by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
