NCPWD and JONAPWD Reaffirm Commitment to Promoting Rights of Persons with Disabilities The National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting the well-being of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. In a meeting held in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, emphasized the need for effective leadership and collaboration to promote the rights and well-being of PWDs. Gufwan appealed to the Federal Government, stakeholders and organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to continue advocating for the rights of PWDs. He also highlighted the need for accurate data on PWDs in Nigeria, soliciting the support of JONAPWD and other OPDs to gather adequate data. This data will help foster maximum support for PWDs in Nigeria says Gufwan. The Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of compliance with the Disability Law to achieve an inclusive society. He expressed his desire for PWDs to have access to free education, employment opportunities, healthcare services, and access to assistive devices. Gufwan stated that removing man-made obstacles is crucial to creating an inclusive society where no one is left behind. The President of JONAPWD, Abdullahi Aliyu, reiterated the organization's commitment to representing the interests of PWDs in Nigeria. JONAPWD pledged to give the Commission maximum cooperation to strengthen their advocacy efforts for PWDs. The NCPWD and JONAPWD's renewed commitment to promoting the well-being of PWDs is a significant step towards achieving a more inclusive society in Nigeria.
