NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Press Release 25 September 2025 NCPWD Strengthens Partnership with She Writes Woman to Advance Mental Health and Psychosocial Disabilities The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing mental health and psychosocial disabilities in Nigeria. This follows a courtesy visit by the Founder and Executive Director of She Writes Woman, Hauwa Ojeifo, alongside Jennifer Abomnger, who reiterated their organization’s mission to give mental health a voice in Nigeria while empowering people with mental health and psychosocial disabilities to tell their stories and develop solutions. The visit highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Commission and She Writes Woman, which began three to four years ago when both organizations jointly hosted the first ever Mental Health Roundtable at the Commission. That milestone meeting, coupled with continued advocacy efforts, contributed to the establishment of the Mental Health Desk within NCPWD. The Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, expressed delight over the enduring partnership and emphasized the Commission’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with She Writes Woman. He praised their work in amplifying the voices of persons with psychosocial disabilities and reaching out to those living with mental health conditions. During the discussions, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration, including a capacity building workshop to provide orientation on psychosocial disabilities and to strengthen the Commission’s institutional framework for mainstreaming psychosocial disabilities within its core mandate. > “Disability inclusion is the responsibility of all,” said Hon. Gufwan. “We look forward to deepening our partnership with She Writes Woman and other organizations to advance the cause of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.” This renewed collaboration marks a vital step toward ensuring that mental health and psychosocial disabilities remain a key priority in the Commission’s broader disability inclusion agenda.
