NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Press Release 23rd August, 2025 NCPWD Partners with Peace for Humanity Foundation on ?70 Billion Farm Cities Project The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Peace for Humanity Foundation to mobilize ?70 billion for the establishment of farm cities dedicated to empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The proposal was formally presented on 22nd August 2025 at the Commission’s headquarters. Receiving the delegation, the Executive Secretary, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering initiatives that create sustainable livelihoods and full inclusion for the disability community. He emphasized that “it is established beyond reasonable doubt that there is ability in disability,” noting that PWDs possess extraordinary talents, energy, and resourcefulness that can meaningfully contribute to national development. The Executive Secretary further highlighted Nigeria’s projected population growth to nearly 300 million within the next 25–30 years, stressing that food security will be a national priority. He urged for collective efforts, including the active participation of persons with disabilities, in building a self-reliant and food-secure nation. The farm cities initiative, to be piloted across six states, is designed as an integrated agricultural hub with facilities for: Crop and animal farming (including poultry, fishery, dairy, and feed production) Skills acquisition centers (ICT, tailoring, electricals, barbing, and more) Scholarships for children of PWDs and those with special needs Recreation and sports arenas for PWDs Special healthcare and insurance programs Unlike conventional farms, farm cities incorporate multiple livelihood opportunities, training centers, and recreational facilities, ensuring holistic empowerment and economic participation of PWDs. The project enjoys the royal patronage of HRH Aminu Ado-Bayero, Emir of Kano, and financial backing from AA Rano, reflecting strong national support for its vision of inclusion, unity, and sustainable development. The Executive Secretary assured that the Commission will work closely with the Foundation to ensure the success of this landmark program and to guarantee that PWDs are fully integrated into Nigeria’s agricultural and economic growth.
